From Publishers Weekly
This cheery cookbook is the brainchild of the Red Hat Society, a nationwide organization of women who like to wear silly hats, enjoy each other’s company, and eat dessert first. Their compilation has the feel of an enormous community cookbook, with the same lack of focus, mixed bag of recipes, and overriding spirit of goodwill. Appropriately enough, the volume starts with dessert-four chapters’ worth of all-American treats with names like Cantaloupe Chiffon Pie, Ice Cream Crunch Torte and Cookie Dough Cream Cheese Puffs. A whole subset of offerings requires crushed candy bars and/or cake mixes; these desserts tend to be especially sugary and graced with the silliest names possible, like Strawberry Yaya Cake and Popcorn Candy Cake. Of the starters and main dishes on offer, most are convenient, quaint and tasty, but a few too many read like they came from the back of a package. Plum Luscious Roast requires a can of plums and a box of soup mix, and the mildly sweet result tastes faintly chemical. Slap-It-Together Beer Cheese Soup tastes almost entirely of Velveeta, and In-A-Snap Crab Bisque tastes much like the two cans of condensed soup of which it’s comprised. Appealing Roast Pork Tenderloin, on the other hand, is full of off-sweet porky flavor, as are tasty Maple-Glazed Ribs. But despite the unevenness of the recipes, this cookbook’s fun spirit makes it a winner.

very nice- would make a good gift
This is a nice BIG hard bound cookbook. I like it when I feel like I’m getting my moneys worth instead of some tiny book that costs way too much. If ya know what I mean.

As a member in RED standing of the Divine Sisterhood of the Dancing Divas, Red Hat Society– this is not only a great book about our group but an excellent multi-purpose cookbook as well. Some of the high points are a collection of the “Impossible” recipes using baking mix that are always easy and tasty. Additionally, a large section in the back is devoted to cooking for one or two and this is especially welcome. I tried about a half dozen recipes, each was easy to follow and turned out yummy. My only suggestion or comment is that the print is a little small, but that is simply to accomodate the large number of recipes included. A good addition to any cookbook collection and a charming gift for anyone.

Good not Great
Thought w/ all that wisdom, recipes would balance out. NOT. Cookin’ is 1 thing, bakin’ all chemistry. Very little rhyme &/or reason.

First of all, this cookbook is just lovely. The pages are nice, clear, easy to read, and sprinkled with great stories about memorable meals and cooking disasters!
True to Red Hat Society spirit, the dessert section of the book comes first; all lesser items come second.
The book is large, with recipes that have been tested by ordinary women (is there really such a thing?) all over the world.
This cookbook will make a lovely and useful addition to every cook’s collection!

Deliciously Delightful
I recently purchased this cookbook and I am very pleased with it. I love the fact that the first chapters in the book deal with dessert.

Save your fork!
We have always been told to save our forks for dessert. This book offers many “fork tested” recipes. Enjoy!

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Red Hat Ladies but I got my money’s worth in this cookbook! I love the way the desserts are first and there are many recipes in this book…
